Where I started my hunt. The first picture is looking across Brownlee Reservior towards Oregon and a group of homes along the reservoir. The second is the 2-track road near the point I started uphill.

Likely areas, south facing slopes and green areas. The crops of late season chukar and Huns most often contain only green grass.

I tend to start high on a snow-free slope, especially if the wind is coming uphill. For my first push through an area I would say the majority of the birds I run into are half to ¾ up slopes like this one.

Escape cover. Z spent a lot of time working birds along this slope without me. The wind was feeding straight up the slope to draw her down but it was much steeper than I wanted to tackle and then have to come back up. The birds learn safe areas like these; many of the birds that flushed from around this slope went straight here.

Pointing along the snow line, can you see her? This seems to me to be classic for late season hunting. As you crest a northern facing slope with snow to an exposed slope…be ready!

Happy dog.

The not-quite-end of the road. Pass through to more good hunting but respect private land.
